At the Malaysian Craft Council (MCC), we believe that the heart of a nation’s identity lies in its cultural heritage, and crafts are a living testament to that heritage.

As a non-profit, purpose-driven organization, our mission extends beyond mere preservation; we are dedicated to empowering and elevating the Malaysian arts and crafts ecosystem.

Our focus is particularly on those crafts deeply rooted in our cultural heritage, which carry the stories, traditions, and values of our communities.

Our approach to safeguarding and advancing Malaysian crafts is threefold: education, experience, and economic advancement.

Our Mission

To make Malaysian craft world class through education, experience and economic elevation.

Through education, we aim to instill a deep appreciation and understanding of traditional crafts in the younger generation, ensuring that these skills and knowledge are passed down and adapted to contemporary contexts. We provide platforms for artisans to gain experience, honing their craft to the highest standards, whether through workshops, exhibitions, or collaborative projects with other artisans and designers. Economic advancement is key to our vision; we strive to open new markets and opportunities for our artisans, enabling them to thrive sustainably and gain the recognition they deserve on both national and international stages.

Our dedication to these principles has not gone unnoticed. We are immensely proud to have been accredited by UNESCO for our efforts in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage (ICH). This prestigious recognition underscores our commitment to preserving and promoting Malaysia’s rich craft traditions. It also affirms our role as a guardian of cultural treasures, ensuring that these crafts not only survive but flourish, adapting to the demands of a globalized world without losing their authenticity.

Our work is about more than just crafts; it’s about keeping our cultural identity alive and dynamic, about creating a bridge between the past and the future. We are passionate about building a world where Malaysian crafts are not just seen as relics of the past but as vital, evolving art forms that continue to inspire and connect people across generations and borders. With each piece of handcrafted art, we tell a story of resilience, creativity, and heritage—a story we are committed to sharing with the world.
